Practical Test Preparation

Quick Links

Prerequisites: Your CBT needs to be completed prior to commencing your test preparation, we can of course help you with that! The Theory Test needs to be passed prior to taking your Module 1 test.

The practical motorcycle test (be it the A1, A2 or A) is split into 2 separate modules:

  • Module 1 – Conducted in a controlled, off-road environment
  • Module 2 – On road test
You need to pass both modules to get a full motorcycle licence.

To get you ready for a test, there are two choices. You can book a series of lessons and once ready, take your tests, or you can book an intensive 3, 4 or 5 day course.

I took Paul’s advice and did my training over the course of a few weeks. So glad I did! Training was relaxed and enjoyable plus it gave me plenty of time for things to sink in after each lesson!

What to expect?

Training always starts at Shire Oak Motorcycle Training HQ in Brownhills. Expect a relaxed environment, a cuppa before you start and plenty of time to ask any questions you may have.

Your training will be on a bike suitable to your experience and in line with the test you are aiming to take. Our fleet is always in good health due to our on-site garage and servicing centre which keep our bikes in tip-top condition.

You’ll kit up, connect your wireless comms gadgetry to your instructor so they can guide you every step of the way, then you’ll get out on your bike. Enjoy!

What do I need to bring?

Long trousers.  Jeans or similar are acceptable as long as the material is durable and hard wearing.
Strong shoes or boots that cover the ankle and are well fitting.
We can supply you with a helmet, jacket and gloves if you do not have your own, for a hire charge of £2.50 per item.
If you normally wear glasses or contact lenses, you will need to bring them to read a registration plate at a minimum distance of 20 metres (66 ft).
A valid UK driving licence.
